Although we may not have many similarities, I would bet that our hesitations over choosing a Web Hosting Company are similar. 

I am an educated and experienced mechanical engineer that has worked as a mechanic, sales representative, various roles in engineering and manufacturing, Oracle and Unix system administrators, technical consultant, sold real estate, and am most recently developing and managing web sites of my own and for others.  This last step required that I make the move to a Web Hosting company , as the cost of not doing so proved financially detrimental.

In hindsight I see that I wasted a lot of time deciding if I should purchase outside hosting space.  It seemed I would go to every length to put off making this decision to decide.  Well, I decided a couple months ago, and found my fear of making this move to be completely without merit.
